SHORTENED COVID-19 LIFESPAN
German university research has shown COVID-19 can remain infectious at room temperature for nine days on surfaces such as door handles. To help businesses combat this as they look to build back better after lockdown, we designed a clip-on doorhandle which could be 3D printed using antimicrobial TPU*.
A key issue to be resolved when producing this product was catering to the wide variety of doorhandle shapes and sizes in use by business across the UK. It would not be possible to offer a one-size-fits-all product. Flexible production using 3D printing gave us the option to adapt the basic design on a case-by-case basis, increasing the length or width at will, greatly expanding the number of businesses we could cater to.
AN UNEXPECTED APPLICATION
A favourite part of our own builds is discovering alternative applications. This is exactly what happened when a local gym owner showed us how a short version of the doorhandle design could be used on dumbbells and other frequently used workout equipment.
