ELIMINATING DISCOMFORT

Face shields often come with thin elastic bands as ear loops which press onto ears and dig into the skin of healthcare workers, resulting in painful rubs over long shifts. To reduce irritation and increase comfort we created an ‘ear saver’ design to distribute the weight of our face shield evenly around the wearer’s head without resting solely on the ears to improve comfort over repeated wears. Masks also come with thin elastic bands so we added mask hooks on the back of the face shield’s headpiece to again take the pressure off of the wearer’s ears and skin.

REDUCING COST BY REUSING

As well as the environmental cost of one-use plastic PPE, healthcare providers are struggling under the financial strain. To respond to this, we created a reusable face shield. Wearers are able to easily swap out the transparent screen for renewed protection while continuing to wear the headpiece comfortably for extended durations. By keeping the headpieces in use for longer without putting wearers at risk, the lifetime cost of each is greatly reduced.

CERTIFIED FOR USE

An unfortunate reality of PPE made by enthusiasts, the ‘citizen supply chain,’ is the equipment has not been benchmarked to quality standards and has no kitemarks. This means no matter how much is made, it cannot be used reliably in healthcare settings where it is most needed. When designing our face shield we had it CE certified, proving it is made safely and to a high level of quality, allowing it to be used anywhere without risk.
